Funding

I have been funded at every stage of my Higher Education trajectory. My research has been made possible by very generous funding from HEIs in the UK, Australia and Singapore, and by institutions in the EU. My PhD was fully funded (including full fees at international rate) by the Vice-Chancellor’s scholarship at the University of Sheffield. In 2014, the year I began my PhD, the scholarship was awarded to 10 students across all schools and disciplines at Sheffield, and I was the only student in Arts and Humanities to receive the scholarship. This is my proudest achievement because this funding enabled me to arrive in the UK to pursue my PhD and opened a host of resources and opportunities to me.
The other highlights of my funding track record are receiving early-career Fellowships from both the Leverhulme Trust and the Wellcome Trust; £1000 bursary from Deakin University and the International Society for First World War Studies to present my new work on colonial archives at Melbourne in July 2018 (I was 1 out of 4 recipients out of 44 applicants worldwide); receiving bursary from Nanyang Technological University Singapore, to present research on Empire and armistice; receiving funding from CARA (Council for At-Risk Academics) to co-organise a conference on subaltern women’s narratives; winning the Petrie Watson Exhibition grant to spend a summer in archives in Berlin to work on a separate project on colonial archives; receiving smaller pots of money from the universities of Oxford, Keele, Leeds, and the UK Association for the History of Nursing to present papers or lead workshops; and ultimately, twice winning over EUR 3000 in one of the most competitive scholarships to attend advanced courses in German at Berlin and Hamburg after multiple rounds of interviews and tests.
